Even if your days of spending Sundays collecting smiley face stickers at the Boardy Barn are long gone, on Saturday, September 9, it’s time to return to the iconic Hampton Bays establishment for Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s (SASF) annual post Labor Day summer fundraiser.
“The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is excited to hold it’s 8th Annual Benefit at the Boardy Barn,” shared Jerry Rosenthal, SASF Executive Director. “This community event raises valuable funds to support the programs and services the organization provides for the animals in the Town of Southampton.”
From 6 to 10 p.m., attendees will enjoy an entertaining evening featuring food, raffles, live music, dancing, door prizes, Chinese auction, silent auction, and maybe even a few of those iconic Boardy Barn smiley face stickers.
“Come join your neighbors and friends for an evening of delicious food provided by your favorite restaurants, live music by Second Shift and the chance to win great auction items,” Rosenthal said.
Proceeds will support Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s Mobile Clinic, which provides low-cost veterinary services to the Southampton community and neighboring communities in Suffolk County. Funds will also support SASF’s in-house Wellness Clinic, which provides low cost wellness and dental exams, vaccinations, and heartworm testing, and SASF’s Behavioral and Training Department, which offers groups and individual classes in basic obedience, agility, as well as puppy kindergarten.

“This year, as in past ones, the benefit is being organized by a group of loyal and hardworking volunteers led by Susie Kinscherf,” Rosenthal added. “Special thanks goes to them and to Mike and Tony, owners of Boardy Barn, for once again donating the venue and providing their staff and band to make this an event for which the community looks forward.”
SASF also recently partnered with relief organizations in Texas to help clear the shelters, so that the influx of displaced animals from Hurricane Harvey will have somewhere to reside. The Shelter has already donated food, cages and pet supplies and will be welcoming their first group of dogs from the area soon. SASF is currently looking for foster families to take in the animals. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door.
