The weekend before Halloween, Amagansett Food Institute (AFI) and Kate Mueth and the Neo-Political Cowgirls (NPC) will present Hysteria: An Immersive Haunt Experience. The delightfully terrifying journey explores the reasoning, antidotes and curses of the agonizing psychological state of the experience’s title. Definitely not for the faint-of-heart, the guided tours will take place at the Amagansett Farmers Market’s outdoor property.

“Hysteria is a series of scenic vignettes based in the historical perceptions of what caused this now- defunct psychological prognosis, but with an added morbidity,” explained Kate Mueth, Founder and Artistic Director of The Neo- Political Cowgirls. “NPC loves to create a slow grind of fear through imagery, literal and figurative darkness, leaving audience members with remnants of theatrical disturbia once they leave.”
During the spine-chilling voyage, groups of ten audience members – so remember to come with your most trusted allies who won’t add to the trepidation by provoking even more fear – will explore the shocking sights – and this is when you will experience vignettes of “hysteria” nearly every 12 minutes. If you get creeped out simply by listening to ghost stories or are still afraid of the dark, you better really prepare yourself for the harrowing, eerie expedition. The hellish excursion will last approximately 25 minutes. However, those who deem the trek child’s play and are chosen as “the most attentive” will be granted entry to a bonus room of fear, but only if they pass their interrogation at the culmination of the journey.
After the tour of terror, step inside the Amagansett Farmers Market to pick up some well-deserved treats – like hot cider, donuts, and other seasonal sweets. And if you really got a good spook, peruse The Amagansett Wine Stand, which will be open extended hours, 12 to 10 p.m., nightly.
