For many, a trip to the Land of Sweets is synonymous with the Christmas season. But, each year, Studio 3 takes the holiday classic and adds their own unique spin to the mesmerizing journey during the Bridgehampton-based dance studio’s annual “Mixed Nuts” presentation. The 2015 show will star a familiar, fiery redhead who wins the adoration of a billionaire businessman that ends up opening both his home and heart to the adorable orphan.
Previous “Mixed Nuts” editions have included “Gatsby” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” themed versions, and this year’s twist is courtesy of another blockbuster favorite. “‘Mixed Nuts 2015’ is a clever mash up of two classics: ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘Annie,'” noted Diane Shumway of Studio 3. Set in an orphanage, “Mixed Nuts 2015” will combine the best of the two theater treasures, swapping Clara for Annie, and Miss Hannigan will replace the feared Mouse King. The performances will feature Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, as well as several favorites from the beloved musical, like “It’s the Hard-Knock Life.” Taking place at Bay Street Theater, the productions will showcase the talents of East End students who will demonstrate a variety of dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and acrobatics.
So as they say, “you’re never fully dressed without a smile,” and “Mixed Nuts” audiences are bound to leave the theater with a wide grin after seeing the inimitable adaptation.
Shows will take place on Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th at 7 p.m., and Sunday, December 20th at 1 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $25.
