Billy Joel’s Hamptons hideout, equipped with everything from the best beach views in town to a world class recording studio and a cozy piano room, has finally been sold after being on the market for nearly five years. The mystery buyer reportedly purchased the singer’s mansion for the bargain price of $19.95 million, after Joel had yet again re-listed the Sagaponack property for $23.5 million earlier in the year.
The 5,500 square-foot residence was originally built in 1994 for late actor Roy Scheider, who was best known for his role in the “Jaws” franchise. Joel bought the property in 2007 for $16.8 million with his then wife Katie Lee, popular cookbook author, television food critic, cook and American novelist. With the help of interior designer Nate Berkus, Lee completely remodeled and redesigned the home’s interiors.
It was styled to include a state-of-the-art kitchen and a separate chef’s kitchen, a two-car garage, four bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms and four fireplaces. A-frame cathedral style ceilings were also built to allow for constant beachfront views from nearly the entire two-story house. The only down side – no pool.
Leading Hamptons luxury home pro Susan Breitenbach at The Corcoran Group represented the anonymous buyer who now calls Joel’s Hamptons bungalow home. Joel is still expected to continue enjoying the remainder of this hot Hamptons summer from his main East End residence in Sag Harbor. His year-round home is located not too far away, in Oyster Bay, so it looks like Joel isn’t planning on leaving Long Island anytime soon.
