Chris Nuzzi Announces Run For Suffolk County Legislature

Hamptons native Chris Nuzzi is the official Republican nominee to run for Suffolk County Legislator against incumbent Jay Schneiderman in November.

The current Southampton Town Councilman, a life long Suffolk county resident was born and raised in the East end of Long Island. He received his Masters Degree in Public Policy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

In office since 2006, he has supported legislature pertaining to quality of life issues, code enforcements, improvement of zoning codes, tax relief, and helped to spread environmental protection awareness. He was also at the forefront of the movement to bury the esthetically unpleasing LIPA transmission lines.

“I’m excited about this campaign and eager to continue the dialogue with residents about the importance of fiscal stability in government and tending to the business and environmental preservation needs of our community,” Nuzzi says.

Nuzzi believes that the same fiscal plan that helped in Southampton can be replicated in all of Suffolk County to help the current budget deficiency. This fiscal plan includes hiring freezes, that could lead to tax cuts, and some staff cuts. Nuzzi knows that tax payers are trying to do more, with less and wants to help them.

He also hopes to continue to address the needs of the local business community. Reportedly excited about traveling up and down to hear what his constituency has to say about his seven years in office. He is apart of the community group that advocates for the Air National Guard base at Gabreski, and has traveled to Washington DC several times to advocate for keeping the base at Gabreski Airport open. Nuzzi has created both a Business Advisory Council and Project Development Council to help with development in the community. Other business boosts have come allowing two-week residential rentals, sidewalk dining, and opposing steep reductions in catching limits.

The need for environment preservation has been a key issue during his terms as councilman and will continue as he begins to campaign. Nuzzi has promoted dredging; trash pick up’s of Hamptons bays and beaches, and promoted education through Plastic Bag Education Task Forces.

Independent incumbent Jay Schneiderman, a Montauk resident, is seeking his sixth and final term. He will have the independent party backing him and, if previous years are indicators, the backing of the Suffolk County Democrats.
