Hamptons Flash Mob Promotes One Billion Rising For Justice

“It is a call to survivors to break the silence and release their stories – politically, spiritually, outrageously – through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, testimonies and whatever way feels right,” expressed One Billion Rising For Justice, a global domestic abuse awareness campaign.

On Thursday, February 27, a Hamptons flash mob will come together to help make history and support the worldwide campaign. The Retreat and The Neo-Political Cowgirls are partnering with the organization to show support from Long Island residents and put on a performance at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.

Last year, on February 14, one billion people in over 200 countries rose and danced to demand the end of violence against women and girls as part of One Billion Rising For Justice. This year, the campaign hopes even more will join their efforts. An especially shocking statistic the organization noted is one in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.

Supporting the cause is easy, you can choose to show off your moves on stage or cheer on the dancers with the rest of the audience. If you plan on participating in the flash mob, the rehearsal is on Thursday, February 27, at 5:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. The evening will also include an appearance by Lynn Blue and Jewlee Trudden of In Circles.

Entry is a suggested donation of $20, which will benefit The Retreat, a Long Island domestic violence services agency, and Eve Ensler’s V-Day work.
