Hamptons 3rd Grader Named East Hampton “Mayor” For A Day

East Hampton Mayor Paul F. Rickenbach, Jr. has chosen Cormac Orr as this year’s honorary Mayor for a Day. “Cormac is a vibrant kid that can brighten up anyone’s day,” noted a group leader at Project Most, an East Hampton not for profit after school program. “He is curious about everything, wants to know why things happen and how they turn out.”

On Friday, January 16th, a ceremony was held at the East Hampton Emergency Service Building honoring the John M. Marshall Elementary School 3rd grader. During the event, Cormac received a proclamation from the Town and was in charge of running the agenda at the beginning of the Town’s Board Meeting. John M. Marshall Elementary School and Project MOST also commemorated the momentous occasion with celebrations.

“Cormac can be kind to others and very giving,” expressed one of Cormac’s teachers. “He is always generous with the kids. His favorite subject is math and he loves learning new things.” The East Hampton student, who is a proud Son of the American Legion, has a passion for computers and all computer games. Cormac says he might like to become a teacher one day, but for now, his focus is on designing his own game.

Last year, Cormac took part in the Special Olympics for the first time and won two gold medals. He was also honored this past summer during Project MOST’s I-Grow Summer Learning Program, where he was awarded ‘Most Improved’ for his ability to excel at new experiences that challenge him, such as trying new cuisines or helping out in the garden. “He is a good listener, and loves to help his counselors,” said the Project Most group leader. “We love having Cormac at Project Most.”
