A Sea Of Rubber Duckies Invading Hampton Bays

It’s time to find your sketch pad and get your creative juices flowing, but keep in mind that the canvas is quite unique.

On Saturday, September 16, the Hampton Bays Civic Association is inviting you to decorate a rubber duckie – that’s right your medium of choice is the beloved childhood toy – and then enter the completed piece in the competition of the year during the Association’s 6th annual Family Fun Day and Duckie Race.

Taking place at Cowfish in Hampton Bays, in addition to the highly anticipated race round Cowfish point, attendees will enjoy an aquatic touch tank, face painting, duckie decorating, a bouncy house, an artist’s table, a silent auction, Grandma’s Attic Chinese Auction, BBQ, raffles, cotton candy, music, optical illusions, and more.

“Be there to cheer your duckie on, or, if you don’t have a duck in the race, come early and get yourself a duck in the race,” shared Hampton Bays Civic Association President, Janice Landis. “Decorate it at the duck decorating table, or whisper your winning advice in its ear.”

The excitement will begin at 11 a.m. with music from Duck Soup Jazz Band and the chance to register your prized racing contestant. Ali from Cornell Cooperative Extension will be on site with a few of her special touch tank friends that will captivate all ages. Attendees will be in awe when Magic Allan J performs at 12 p.m. and the wonderment will continue with The Amazing Bart at 1:15 p.m. Music from Charles Certain and Certain Moves will follow at 2 p.m.

Top honors for the Best Decorated Duck Contest will be announced at 2:15 p.m. and the Racing Ducks parade from the registration table to board the Cowfish starting boat dockside will commence at 2:30 p.m. Then, at 3 p.m., it’s off to the races during the Sixth annual Rubber Duckie Race round Cowfish point.

The event will wrap up with the raffle drawing at 3:30 p.m., the closing of the silent auction & Granny’s Attic raffle at 3:35 p.m. and, at 4 p.m., competitors can collect their racing ducks.

Be there to cheer your duckie on, or, if you don’t have a duck in the race, come early and get yourself a duck in the race. Decorate it at the duck decorating table, or whisper your winning advice in its ear.

“Remember: If you’re not in it, you can’t win it!” added Landis.

Entry to Family Fun Day is $5 per person or $15 per family. There is free parking at the Hampton Bays High School with a complimentary Rumba bus to the event.

Hampton Bays Civic Association was founded in 1918 to “promote the prosperity, welfare and civic advancement of the community of Hampton Bays by united effort and action in every possible lawful manner” and “continue to ensure the community’s voices are heard regarding property taxes, and quality of life issues at Southampton Town Hall and at county and state levels, build upon and create relationships with local community organizations and voice a united opinion on all proposed activities that affect the economic viability, beauty, and future of our community and educate the Association regarding solutions to reduce pollution, density and create a vibrant community.”

Cowfish is located at 258 East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays and the Hampton Bays High School is located at 88 Argonne Road East in Hampton Bays. For more information, visit www.hbcivic.org.

  • Review: “Ragtime,” Might be the Best Musical Ever at Bay Street Theater!

Bay Street Theater’s powerful production of the musical “Ragtime” mesmerized the audience and at the end had them on their feet applauding wildly. “Ragtime” is a must see. There are so many individual roof raising performances, yet the show is so much more than the sum of these amazing exhibitions of top level singing, dancing and physical acting. The drama is spellbinding. “Ragtime,” is running at the Bay Street Theater until August 28th, Visit www.baystreet.org for all information about show times and ticket purchases. @baystreettheater
