After being ousted of the US Open by Juan Martín del Potro, Roger Federer headed to the Hamptons. The Swiss tennis star and his wife Mirka Federer enjoyed a date night at The 1770 House in East Hampton on Sunday, September 10 – the same day as the US Open Men’s Finals where long-time rival and world number one Rafael Nadal defeated South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
When a fan approached the 19 time grand slam winner to say he had attended the thrilling del Potro, Federer Quarterfinal, Federer smiled and politely apologized for not winning.
With Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic out, many expected a Federer and Nadal showdown in the US Open Semifinals. “I didn’t have that feeling at Wimbledon or at the Australian Open, and that’s why rightfully so I’m out of this tournament, because I wasn’t good enough, in my mind, in my body, and in my game to overcome these three pillars,” Federer told reporters about this year’s Open.
And while the grand slam tournaments are over, Federer still has the Laver Cup, Shanghai, Basel, Paris and London to look forward to.
