On Veterans Day (Saturday, November 11), Bideawee is teaming up with Westhampton Beach’s Kerrigan Country Realty for the Second Annual Veterans Day Adoption Event. While the event is open to all, Bideawee is waiving the adoption fee for any military veterans, but they will need to show a military ID or service records.
“We wanted to thank our Military Veterans for their service while arranging a forever home for a loving pet,” shared Dee Kerrigan Perfido, Kerrigan Country Realty owner and principal broker. “It has been reported in several studies that our Military Veterans often return home in need of emotional and physical support, and that pets provide the type of companionship that facilitates that support. We wanted to help.”

So Kerrigan Country Realty decided to partner with Bideawee, a leading animal welfare and pet adoption organization serving metropolitan New York and Long Island, who is also located in Westhampton Beach. “We reached out to Bideawee and asked for their support and help,” Kerrigan Perfido explained. “They said yes immediately, and last year we hosted our first Pets for Vets event. We are so excited to be able to host it again this year and hopefully many more years to come.”
During the adoption event, Bideawee’s mobile adoption van will be stationed outside Kerrigan Country Realty from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) where a plethora of seriously cute adoptable dogs and cats of all ages and sizes will be looking for their forever homes.
“We are thrilled to partner with Kerrigan Country Realty for a second year to host this special adoption event in the Village of Westhampton,” shared Amy Brostoff, associate director of marketing at Bideawee. “We hope military veterans, as well as others in the community, will join us to find their perfect pet match on Veterans Day.”
The event will also feature special discounts on Bideawee goods and services available to Veterans that Bideawee will be announcing soon.
In addition to providing endless unconditional love, there are numerous other benefits of owning a pet – like a decrease in depression, stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, improved immunity and even a lower risk of heart attack and stroke.
“Experimental studies looking at pets and responses to stress have focused on acute responses to stress, but other epidemiolgical studies have demonstrated an important role for pets,” Karen Allen, UB research scientist, noted in an UB Reporter article. “For example, there is clear evidence that having a pet—especially a dog—is associated with prolonged life after a heart attack.”
