“Living Better In Small Spaces | Talk And Tour” To Explore Maximizing A Home’s Space

The Hamptons may be known for the area’s palatial mansions, but during East Hampton Library’s next Tom Twomey Series, Roberta Sandenbergh, AIA, and Jane Dillon, realtor, will discuss some of the East End’s more quaint homes, as well as “space opportunities” and how to maximize petite abodes. Living Better in Small Spaces | Talk and Tour will also include the chance to explore three recently renovated small East Hampton village homes.

“The tips and techniques about ‘small space living’ that will be discussed by the speakers are really applicable to homes of all sizes,” Chip Rae, Chair of the East Hampton Library’s Tom Twomey Series, shared. “After the talk, we’ll tour some nearby small village homes that exemplify these space – efficient ideals – with the goal of helping you to see your home, no matter its size, in a new way.”

Sandenbergh, an internationally known architect and Small Space Living author will speak about “space opportunities” – how to use untapped areas in your home to maximize storage and for additional organizational purposes. The Brooklyn-born architect spent the majority of her professional life in South Africa, where her architect husband was born. During her time in South Africa, she utilized small space ideas that she developed in New York for small-scale residential designs. Her brilliant space-saving ideas have been featured in SA City Life and Home Handyman magazines, as well as the Johannesburg Star, Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle. Sandenbergh studied at Vassar College, graduated from Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture, and earned a Masters in Urban Design from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg.

Dillon, a long-time Hamptons realtor, will cover the local market, as well as her own personal experience as a small homeowner. She moved to East Hampton in 1987 and since then, Dillon has bought and renovated multiple East End residencies. She is currently working on an iconic small house situated near the railroad station.

Admission to Living Better in Small Spaces | Talk and Tour is free, but advanced reservations are requested, as seating is limited.

Living Better in Small Spaces | Talk and Tour will take place on Saturday, August 24, with the talk at 9:30 a.m., followed by tours from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
