Hamptons-Based Animal Shelter Holding Week-Long Digital Dog Walk And Online Vendor Fair

Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s (SASF) annual Paws in the Park will look a little different this year. While typically held at Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays, the 2020 iteration will be held virtual.

“Put your paws up for Paws in the Park: The Digital Edition! Join our Digital Dog Walk and Online Vendor Fair to support a great cause and win some amazing prizes,” Katie McEntee, Director of Adoptions Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, encouraged.

From Saturday, May 23 through Saturday, May 30, SASF supporters can take part in the Digital Dog Walk in the comfort of their own home/neighborhood and also peruse online through an exceptional selection of goods from nearly 20 vendors featured in the Online Vendor Fair.

“Create your team, join someone else’s, donate today and get ready to walk!” McEntee said. Paws in the Park: The Digital Edition participants can track their miles via the Wooftrax-Walk for a Dog app, which is available at www.wooftrax.com. After you’ve set up an account, search for The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation by clicking “Animal Charity.”

The person that registers the most team members will win a Cuddle Clone Gift Certificate valued at $249 (covers 1 plush cuddle clone), the individual that walks the most miles will be awarded a Family Membership to The Children’s Museum of the East End, – and the person that raises the most money will win a trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas. The fabulous four days, three nights getaway is for four people and includes two JetBlue round trip tickets.

“Get your Paws in place because Paws in the Park is almost here! Check out how many amazing vendors we have!” McEntee noted.

The digital happening will feature items from Buddy Mercury, Cindy’s Stampin’ Up, Dog Eared Books Hampton, Empire Display Studios, Healing With Animals, Iconic Paw, Meow Mini Mart, Meowy Janes, Naomi’s Designs, Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic, Once Upon A Bow, Personalize Your Pet, Pittie Clothing Company, Sailors Beach Walks, Sew Hamptons, Sweet Pup Studios, The Art Nanny, and Touchstone Crystal. To get a sneak peek at the Online Vendor Fair, visit the Paws in the Park: The Digital Edition Facebook Group.

“We have some great vendors joining us this year! From London Jeweler’s Cause for Paws jewelry to Internet sensation Buddy Mercury (the piano playing beagle) who will be selling his CDs to Meowy Jane offering organic cat toys! Ionic Paws Paintings, a company where you can get a painting of your pet and $20 goes back to our shelter pets!” McEntee relayed.

The Paws in the Park: The Digital Edition registration fee is $20. Anyone who raises $100 or more will receive a free T-Shirt.

All proceeds from Paws in the Park benefit the animals residing at the Shelter. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, is committed to caring for the homeless animals in the East End community. In addition to providing a refuge for the local animals, SASF’s reach can be felt nationwide, and even globally as they rescue dogs from “kill shelters” and extreme situations spanning from New York City to Georgia to Puerto Rico and even China. In 2018 alone, 805 animals found their forever homes while residing at the Shelter, 263 strays were reunited with their families, and over 300 pets were placed in foster homes.

Southampton, Sag Harbor, And Bridgehampton Villages Leading Up To Memorial Day Weekend

Southampton, Sag Harbor, And Bridgehampton Villages Leading Up To Memorial Day Weekend

  • Iconic Marders, More Than a Nursery

“Marders” is the high essence of a Hamptons Nursery and so much more. It is the epitome of success, situated on 40 acres of prime Bridgehampton real estate. Charlie Marder of 120 Snake Hollow Road, along with his wife Kathleen have built a monument that has been providing their expertise and services to the residents of the Hamptons for about fifty years.

The stories are now folklore. Back in the day, usually wearing his trademark suspenders, Charlie was ever ready to move the largest trees of the Hamptons whether they were to be planted, relocated, or removed. He once boasted to this reporter that he had the record for the widest load moved by the Shelter Island South Ferry. Charlie said he deposited a tree onto the ferry on one side and fetched it off the ferry on the other side, recalling, “The tree was wider than the ferry, sticking out on both sides.” @marderslandscaping

  • Discover Hamptons History with East Hampton Historical Society’s Guided Tours

We all know that September is the best month in the Hamptons. The summer renters have mostly gone (we’ll miss you!). The weather practically demands that you go out for a walk. Maybe you’ve been too busy at the beach or planning activities for the kids, but now that it’s September, take a stroll, stretch your legs, and explore the rich, beautiful history around the Hamptons.

The East Hampton Historical Society is hosting Guided Walking Tours around the Hamptons all September long, so stay a while and listen.

I love walking tours not just because of the guides, who are great storytellers, but the company and conversations sparked with other attendees. We’re the kind of people you’ll see, hands on hips, squinting to read the well-worn plaque on a historical monument. The people who read those brown signs, who pick up and read the local leaflets at a museum or hotel lobby. @easthampton_histsoc

  • Real Estate with Diane Saatchi: The One That Got Away

When most people think back to the one that got away, they think about relationships.

I think about real estate.

After 35 years of selling real estate, I’ve seen more instances of homebuyers and sellers getting fixated on the one that got away than you’d think. For buyers, it could be that perfect three-bedroom waterfront cottage that was snapped up the day after they viewed it.

In cases like these, the one that got away isn’t just a quiet reminiscence — it’s a shadow that falls over the months and even years to come, making it difficult if not impossible for would-be buyers to find something that measures up to what they had, or thought they had, before.
