Sometimes, a date night with your spouse is called for, and in Sag Harbor, a great go-to spot is LuLu Kitchen.
Here’s what I like about LuLu: it’s super chic and sophisticated inside. The bar at LuLu is unforgettable. It’s beautiful, with lit-up shelves that showcase the different bottles, almost as if they were on display for you. The beers on tap offer a good selection of local brews, including Sag Harbor’s very own Kidd Squidd’s IPA, and several unique imported beers you don’t see every day, like the Chimay lager.
Beyond the bar is an open kitchen featuring an open oven where classically trained chefs prepare pristine food for the restaurant, almost as if performing a ballet. Staple items, such as a whole head of cauliflower roasted in the oven and delicately placed on a wood serving tray surrounded by various roasted grapes and flavors, are mesmerizing as they emerge from the kitchen.
It’s a romantic and joyful place to go. Celebrations occur at LuLu’s, locals enjoy their cocktails before heading home at LuLu’s, and romantic evenings unfold there.
LuLu’s is a unique spot in Sag Harbor, open year-round and offering a happy hour at the bar seven days a week from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, making it incredibly convenient to grab a quick drink before heading to the theater in Sag Harbor.
My wife and I arrived at LuLu last weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The wine list is extensive (for her), and the beer list immediately made me smile. The menu has its pricey items, like their $51 Branzino or their $71 lobster, but you can also find something affordable, including a lovely and very popular cheeseburger for $28.
For me, though, it’s all about the wood-fired grill, the vibe, and the professionalism accompanying a restaurant of this caliber. The people running this restaurant understand the Hamptons. They know that to have a successful restaurant here, you must offer the luxuries of fine dining and ensure a good time. LuLu’s is a great go-to.
