There is something magical about East Hampton Village these days. The crisp air, town pond, and stores lit up early at night make it a wonderful place to be. The Palm in East Hampton is a staple but easy to forget about. Like the Windmill in town, you always just assume The Palm will be there.
When my wife and I arrived, we were met by the complimentary valet parking. We were all dressed up. It was date night, which is rare. Thank God. Get me a bourbon, please.
Inside is the familiar warmth and the welcoming wood-walled bar, hotel, and restaurant. The Palm screams luxury, and it is. It’s a wonderful vibe, like out of a movie, and as a guest, you helplessly play the part of a fancy person.
We were brought to our table excited and met our waiter Gus who I used to work with years ago, and has been working at The Palm for over 20 years. We decided to get a classic meal, after all we were at one of the best steak houses in the world. We ordered a dozen oysters, which of course were local and sensational, and decided to split a bone in rib-eye, which was the most expensive steak on the menu, as well as a chopped salad.
Steak these days is considered almost like a health food in the eyes of many, so I decided to take that perspective and hammered away at it like an absolute animal while sipping my Maker’s Mark.
Life is good.
After the meal, we split a massive slice of Tiramisu, which was superb.
If your considering the Palm, don’t be afraid to go in with a plan to split the dishes. When you open the menu, the prices can take your breath away because they are so high. But splitting a rib eye is more than enough food for two people and it is not frowned upon.
One of the best restaurants in the Hamptons.
