“We are thrilled to be able to showcase the best of East End produce and food products and look forward to working with the community to bring more awareness of local food and food related issues,” expressed Kathleen Masters, Executive Director of the Amagansett Food Institute.
The Amagansett Food Institute (AFI) recently announced that they have signed a lease with the Peconic Land Trust to run the Amagansett Farmers Market, with an expected opening on Saturday, August 1st. AFI will operate the market as a retail food destination and community hub, showcasing East End produce and products from local and New York State food producers.
“We look forward to working with Kathy and her team at the Amagansett Food Institute, as we continue to support our local farming community through diverse programming, including farmland protection and access to farmland for both new and established farm operations through both lease and sale,” shared Pam Greene, Vice President of the Peconic Land Trust.
The Amagansett Farmers Market embodies both AFI’s and the Trust’s shared goals to support, promote, and advocate for East End farmers, vintners, fishers and other food producers and providers. The market will primarily feature local produce and locally prepared foods, including several AFI member farms and South Fork Kitchens, their commercial incubator kitchen.
Along with highlighting and supporting local food providers, the Amagansett Farmers Market will help bring food-based education to the community and visitors. AFI will host a series of events and provide educational materials at the market. The programming will take a look at seasonality and a more traditional relationship with food, as well as address issues like food waste, food insecurity, health and nutrition, and sustainability. Visitors can stop by the AFI educational center to learn more about East End agricultural practices and operations.
The Amagansett Farmers Market is located at 367 Main Street in Amagansett. For more information, visit www.amagansettfoodinstitute.org.
