The Oscars are this weekend and while you are watching all the stylish stars walk down the red carpet and win the coveted award, make sure you are drinking something delicious. Here are six Oscar worthy cocktails to enjoy during the Academy Awards.

1. Home-Aid This sweet cocktail which pays homage to “Silver Linings Playbook” is the perfect way to “self-medicate” while watching to see who wins the award for Best Picture.

  • 2 oz. Licor 43 Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • 4 oz. Tropical Fruit Punch
  • 1 tbsp. fresh squeezed Lemon Juice

Directions: Combine all ingredients with ice and shake. Strain into an ice filled glass and garnish with an umbrella.

    2. Canadian Embassy: The “Argo” characters could have used this cocktail while waiting to be rescued in the Canadian Embassy.

  • 2 oz. The Original Moonshine
  • 1/2 oz. Maple Syrup
  • Slice of Orange
  • Dash of Bitters

Directions: Measure maple syrup into a glass. Add ice and pour in The Original Moonshine slowly, stirring to ensure that you properly combine it with the syrup. Add a splash of bitters. Rub an orange slice around the inside of a rocks glass, add fresh ice, and strain The Original Moonshine mixture into the rocks glass. Garnish with orange and serve.

    3. Starlet: Champagne will be in no short supply at the Oscars, so celebrate like the starlets with this champagne topped cocktail.

  • .50 oz. Remy Martin VSOP
  • .50 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 Sugar Cube
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Top with chilled Champagne

Directions: Build all ingredients in a chilled champagne flute. Garnish with a long lemon twist.

    4. Basil Hayden’s Parisian Bubbly: This simple sparkling spritzer was inspired by the scenic settings of “Les Miserables”.

  • 1 part Basil Hayden’s Bourbon
  • Sparkling Apple Juice

Directions: Add Basil Hayden’s Bourbon to a champagne flute and fill the remainder with sparkling apple juice. Garnish with a sliced apple.

    5. Django’s Old Fashioned: Celebrate Best Picture nominee “Django Unchained” with this classic cocktail.

  • 1.5 oz Belvedere Vodka
  • 1.5 oz Coconut Water
  • One bar spoon Simple Syrup
  • One bar spoon Absinthe
  • 1″ zest of Lemon

Directions:Muddle lemon and sugar in the base of a rocks glass. Slowly fill glass with cubed ice and remaining ingredients (like an old fashioned) stirring continuously. Garnish with a mint sprig.

    6. Cruzan Show Stopper: The perfect cocktail to sip on while waiting for the show stopping dresses during the red carpet.

  • 1 part Cruzan Aged Light Rum
  • 1 part Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum
  • ½ part DeKuyper Apricot Brandy
  • 1 part fresh Lemon Sour
  • 3 parts Pineapple Juice
  • Pineapple Wedges
  • Ground Nutmeg

Directions: Combine all ingredients with ice. Pour into a hurricane glass and garnish with pineapple and a dusting of fresh ground nutmeg.

    • Traffic in the Hamptons is Time Sensitive

Traffic in the Hamptons is time sensitive. Going east from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and west from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. has become quite an ordeal. The initial expansion of “Highway 39” back around 2006-2007, in which the two-lane road was expanded to four and in some places six lanes, no longer is alleviating the traffic flow.

    • Sixty/Something: Solid Gold Rent

My first full-time year in the Hamptons started as a weekend and lasted a decade. I paid rent to a host of folks thinking I’d be moving back to NYC. Somehow the east end helped me transition to a very happily remarried east end guy.

This tale all started with me, a divorced dad having a fateful ride to Joe Shaw’s home as a favor to pick up a deposit on his sailboat. That day ended with me buying his sailboat. It was an on the spot spur of the moment epiphany moment. I knew nothing about sailboats or east end bays.

    • Bideawee Animal Rescue: “Stay Awhile”

It’s been more than two years since the start of the pandemic where there was a significant increase in animal adoptions, known as the “pandemic puppy craze.” Now, animal shelters across the country have been experiencing a lull in adoptions.

Bideawee is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. They have locations in New York City, Wantagh, and Westhampton, and they are encouraging the community to consider bringing a deserving and lovable pet into their home. @bideawee
