What began as a small healing arts center in East Hampton has grown into one of the most trusted names in holistic wellness. Founded on the belief that the body can heal itself, Naturopathica has built a reputation for blending plant-based therapies with results-driven skincare, offering a thoughtful, balanced approach to both spa treatments and everyday wellness.
With locations in East Hampton, Bridgehampton, New York City, and Florida, Naturopathica has become a go-to destination for those looking to reset, recharge, and reconnect—especially during the busy summer season out East. Each space encompasses the brand’s calming, intentional philosophy, while delivering personalized treatments that combine traditional healing practices with modern techniques.
As the Hamptons summer season gets underway, Spa Director Cassie Pahel shared more about the brand’s roots, what sets the Naturopathica experience apart, and why a visit to the spa has become a ritual for so many returning guests year after year.
Can you share the story behind Naturopathica and how the brand first began?
CP: Naturopathica was founded by Barbara Close, a pioneer in holistic health who wanted to create a different kind of wellness experience, one rooted in nature’s intelligence but backed by real results. Her inspiration was very personal. After witnessing her mother’s battle with cancer, she became deeply interested in how natural therapies, nutrition, and mindful living could support healing more completely. What began as a small healing arts center in East Hampton has grown into a national brand, but that core intention hasn’t changed: we’re still focused on supporting the body’s innate ability to heal, inside and out.
How would you describe the philosophy behind Naturopathica, and how does it shape the experience you offer guests?
CP: At its core, we believe wellness isn’t a single moment but something you carry into your everyday life. Everything we do is designed with that in mind, from the breathwork ritual that begins each treatment to how our services are layered and customized. Of course, results matter, but just as important is how you feel, during and after the treatment, and how that sense of balance stays with you.

Naturopathica has deep roots in East Hampton, where it first began as a healing arts center. How has that location influenced the brand’s identity over time?
CP: East Hampton is really where everything started for us, and it continues to shape who we are. We’ve grown alongside this community for more than two decades, listening closely to our guests and evolving with their needs. What’s special is that many of those same clients now visit us in places like Tribeca, Bridgehampton, and Palm Beach. There’s a real continuity there. It’s a very loyal, connected community.
What led to expanding further in the Hamptons, including your Bridgehampton location, and how does that space complement the original and differ in terms of setting and overall experience?
CP: Bridgehampton felt like a very natural next step. We wanted to better serve our Hamptons clients, especially in the summer when crossing the East End is challenging. The space itself is a bit more elevated from a hospitality perspective, but it still feels very much like Naturopathica. It’s about accessibility and meeting our clients where they are.
What sets Naturopathica apart from other spas on the East End?
CP: What really sets us apart is that we’re both a spa and a skincare brand, and everything is developed through real treatment room experience. Our products and services are designed together, which significantly impacts the results. And then there’s our team—many of our therapists and estheticians have been with us for over 15 years. That level of consistency and relationship-building is something you don’t often see, and guests really feel that.
Can you walk us through the range of services you offer and how treatments are tailored to individual needs?
CP: We offer a full range of services—massage, facials, and body treatments—but what’s most important is that everything is highly customizable. Our experienced therapists and estheticians can tailor each treatment in the moment, whether a client seeks relaxation, addresses specific skin concerns, or focuses on overall wellness.

Your approach blends botanicals with advanced techniques. How do you balance traditional healing practices with modern treatments?
CP: We’ve always balanced traditional healing with modern plant science. We use time-tested botanicals like calendula and manuka honey, but we also invest in advanced formulations and clinical testing. That combination allows us to create treatments that feel really sensorial and restorative, while still delivering visible results.
Can you tell us about Naturopathica’s most popular products and why customers find them so beneficial?
CP: A few products guests return to again and again. Our Vitamin C15 Wrinkle Remedy Serum is loved for brightening and smoothing the skin. The Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm is another favorite—it’s incredibly nourishing yet still effective at removing makeup. And our Calendula Essential Hydrating Cream is a staple, especially in the Hamptons, because it’s so calming and deeply hydrating, even for sensitive skin.
What has the clientele been like in the Hamptons, and what are they typically seeking when they come in for treatments?
CP: Our guests love a mix of both massage and facial treatments, and many have been coming to see us for over 20 years—often seeing the same therapists for just as long. There is a deep sense of loyalty, both from our guests and our team. For many, it’s not just about the treatment—it’s about that connection and the consistency of care. Our therapists and estheticians understand their needs and support their overall well-being personally and meaningfully.
How does the spa experience shift during the summer season when the Hamptons are at their busiest?
CP: The spa experience becomes incredibly vibrant during the summer. We are often booked weeks in advance, welcoming both longtime clients and new guests visiting the Hamptons. Despite the pace, our team remains consistent, ensuring each experience still feels calm, intentional, and personalized. It’s our favorite time of year—we look forward to reconnecting with returning guests while also introducing new clients to the brand.
Are there any treatments, offerings, or initiatives you’re especially excited about for this upcoming summer?
CP: We’re excited to continue expanding our wellness offerings this summer, including the introduction of select modalities such as acupuncture, cupping, and reflexology. These additions allow us to deepen our approach to whole-body wellness and offer guests new ways to restore balance and support long-term health, with more to come as we move further into the season.
How do you encourage clients to carry the benefits of their treatments into their everyday routines?
CP: We begin every service with breathwork using our Aromatic Alchemies, and we talk with guests about how those moments of calm can be brought into their everyday lives. Our skincare and body care collections are designed to support a full lifestyle—providing simple, effective rituals that extend the benefits of each treatment beyond the spa.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers about Naturopathica or the experience you offer in the Hamptons?
CP: It is truly one of a kind. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re immersed in a beautiful spa scent created from the florals and aromatics in our skincare. I’ve been in the spa industry for over 20 years, and the therapists on our team are some of the most talented and skilled I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Their guests are incredibly loyal, which speaks to the level of care they provide. In East Hampton, we also have a beautiful courtyard where we encourage guests to relax after their treatment—enjoy tea, have lunch from the market, and take a moment to fully unwind.
