The international social club where readers come together, mingle, and quietly read books has officially opened a chapter on the East End. If you’re a book lover but just can’t find the time in your busy schedule, this is the social club for you.
Beginning in San Francisco, California, in 2012, as an alternative to your weekly or monthly book clubs, best friends Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich, launched Silent Book Club. Silent book club combines a little taste of socialization and carves out just the right amount of time for you to fit in a few chapters of reading. No homework is required, there is no pressure to finish, and it’s as easy as fitting in after-work drinks with friends. This is the perfect idea if quality time is your love language, but your social battery drains quickly. Spend an hour with your friends or partner catching up on your nightstand queue without the added pressure of an all-night hangout.
With nearly 500 chapters in 50 different countries, Silent Book Club has quickly increased in popularity since its 2012 launch. SBC has been recognized by NPR, Wall Street Journal and O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, toting its presence as “happy hour for introverts”. Finally!! Check out our Westhampton Beach Chapter, the first on the east end, on instagram at @SilentBookClubWHB. Their first meeting will be on March 26th from 6pm to 8pm at the Westhampton Beach Brewing Company. Grab a friend, the book you’ve been meaning to finish and meet me there!
