In January of last year, our village experienced the dynamic and interactive performance platform LAYERHYTHM, which made a striking debut and left an enduring impression on the community. Exciting news! The Church is thrilled to welcome LayeRhythm back in 2024 for another exhilarating Dance Jam Session on Saturday, January 27th at 6:30pm. This unique event encourages active audience participation, making spectators integral contributors to the dance and music unfolding on stage. It’s a family-friendly affair, with LayeRhythm dedicated to delivering transformative art experiences suitable for all ages!
LayeRhythm’s approach involves a series of improvisational games, skillfully blurring the boundaries between the audience and performers. By collecting ideas from the audience, they seamlessly weave them into the music, lyrics, and movements performed by musicians, emcees, and dancers. Founded by Mai Lê Hô, a French-Vietnamese street/club dance artist, educator, and curator, LayeRhythm’s repertoire spans various genres such as hip hop, funk, soul, house music, popping, locking, flexN, breaking, Detroit jit, house dance, and more. Attendees can even pick up a move or two as the talented dancers showcase their skills, celebrating the vibrant culture of street and club dances!
The evening is thoughtfully structured to include dance party breaks between performances, underscoring LayeRhythm’s mission of fostering community through play and transforming individuals’ relationships with music and dance. Concession stands will be available for those looking to enjoy refreshments during the event.
LayeRhythm’s lineup for this performance includes a stellar cast of artists, featuring Ivan Cofield aka Boy Heat Rock (breaking/popping), Daniel D Drum (drummer), Ksenia Vasileva (bassist), Mai Lê Hô (house dance), Kaleb Hopkins (keyboardist), Cal Hunt (flexN), Amir Idris aka RQTek (emcee), and Mike Manson (Detroit jit). Get ready for an unforgettable experience filled with rhythm, dance, and community spirit!
