Starting with Lady Gaga’s performance of “Appaluse,” where the singer made several outfit changes onstage, including a nautical seashell bra top and matching sea shelled thong, the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards were filled with several fashion WTF’s.
The piece de resistance of the night came from Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke’s combined performance of “We Can’t Stop,” “Blurred Lines,” and “Give It 2 U.” The formed Disney star strutted out in a horrific stuffed animal design leotard performing hit her, then stripped down to a nude colored latex bra and matching underwear. Thicke didn’t do much better in the fashion department, coming out in a too tight stripped suit which looked like it fit in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice.” While the fashion during the performance was awful, it was Thicke and Cyrus’ gyrating, twerking and “dancing” which left viewers wondering WTF?
Katy Perry closed the awards show with her performance of ‘Roar’ Under the Brooklyn Bridge in a boxing ring. Sticking with the theme Perry donned a fiery pair of boxing shorts and sports bra.
While some stars tried too hard to be noticed, Justin Timberlake kept it classy for his medley of solo hits. *NSYNC fans (and most of the Barclays Center) were ecstatic when Timberlake was joined onstage by JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick for a few verses of “Girlfriend” and “Bye, Bye, Bye.”
Performances from the 2013 MTV VMA’s certainly made their mark on VMA history, but was it the raciest VMA performances of all?
