“New York has incredible design talent,” said WGSN Vice President of U.S. Content Sheila Aimette about the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Hamptons.com caught up with Aimette to see what WGSN, a leading trend forecasting service for fashion and design, expects to see on the runways.
Spring 2014 Trends To Look For:
A continuation of minimalist sporty. This year fall is all about the “sporty lux” trend and WGSN expects it will continue into the spring. From sequined sweatshirts to dressy baseball jackets, stylish sporty women are thrilled about fashion this season.
70’s it girl. The classic boho-chic look is back, this time with a little bit of a sporty edge and a more paired down vision.
Polished pretty. This delicate look will be enhanced by pops of color on the runway.
Cross pollination of top trends. While most would not think to mix trends like polished pretty and lux sporty, spring gives fashionistas the opportunity to try. Take a cue from top designers on how to style the three trends together and if you are still stuck on ideas Aimette suggests pairing a sporty baseball jacket with a lace top.
Hot Spring Colors:
Lots of blues. From icy aquas to “80’s navy,” break out your best blues. If black is always your go to choice, switch it up this spring with navy.
A range of pinks. Girly girls get ready because WGSN thinks pretty pinks are in for spring.
Pastel and cream hues. Create a monochromatic pallet for spring with the light or neutral colors.
Prints galore. This trend was especially driven by the explosion of floral prints and will be huge for the spring season, from digitally generated blooms to all different colors and sizes. Also be on the lookout for Aztec prints, and the marriage of stripes, checks, and dots. For prints with an edge and conversational aspect try a graphic or topography type of print.
“It’s the mixing and cross pollination of all of these trends that make Fashion Week interesting. You don’t know what you are going to get but we predict what we are hopefully going to see,” noted Aimette.
New York Fashion Week is Thursday, September 5 through Thursday, September 12, 2013. To watch live streaming of the Spring 2014 Collections visit www.mbfashionweek.com.
