If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain then join Backpacks For Fellow Students (BFFS), who will present their 3rd Annual Race for a Reason 5K on Sunday September 18th. For the second year in a row, Margaritaville, a global brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and author, Jimmy Buffett, will serve as the race’s Title Sponsor.
“One of our core values at Margaritaville is to foster a shared responsibility for the well-being of our staff, guests, and community, so when we heard about Backpacks For Fellow Students we just had to be part of it,” said Tamara Baldanza, Chief Marketing Officer for Margaritaville.
The race will begin at the Westhampton Beach Village Green at 9 a.m., with a walk/run open to all ages following at 9:15 a.m. The 2016 route takes participants through picturesque Westhampton Beach, along Dune Road and across 2 Bridges. The professionally timed race is mostly flat and fast with a few rolling hills.
“We can’t wait to bring the Margaritaville state of mind to this year’s Race For A Reason and we’re honored to be involved in this fun, worthwhile event for this amazing cause,” added Baldanza. “It is a pleasure to partner with Ariana and we are so proud of what she is doing in her community. Fins Up!”
All registered runners will receive medals, with custom awards given to the winners in each age group. Pre-registered participants will also receive a race t-shirt and backpack.
The family-friendly event will feature music from Michael Variale of East End Entertainment – who will make attendees feel like they’re in paradise with sounds inspired by Margaritaville, and also prizes, raffles and food.
Check-in will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Registration is $25.
Westhampton Beach 11th grader Ariana DeMattei founded Backpacks For Fellow Students, a 501(c)(3), as a way to provide East End elementary school students in need with a brand new backpack that is equipped with all the necessary school supplies that are required for the school year.
