Pro surfer Quincy Davis has spent countless hours in the water, which is why ocean conservation and protecting nature is a cause near and dear to her heart. Free Rain, a naturally flavored sparkling water, believes nature is our greatest asset – and to safeguard Mother Nature, the brand donates one percent of sales to environmental charities through 1% For The Planet, sources the cleanest all-natural ingredients, and their cans and packaging are fully recycable. So, it was a no brainer for the Montauk native to join Free Rain as a Brand Ambassador.

We caught up with Davis about her most memorable moments in the water, where she hopes to surf this summer, her store, Quincy Montauk, and much more.

You’ve joined the Free Rain team as a Brand Ambassador. Why was it a brand that you wanted to partner with?

QD: I feel very aligned with the brand. I love sparkling water with a bit of flavor. Free Rain tastes delicious and the fact that it contains no added sugar is huge. The packaging is not only beautiful and fun but it’s enhanced with super clean and beautiful ingredients. Free Rain prioritizes the planet by donating to charities and making all their cans fully recyclable.

Colin [McCabe] founded Free Rain to “unlock more in all of us.” What empowers you and do you have a personal mantra?

QD: Taking care of myself in ways I know make me feel grounded, clear and energized is important to me. I don’t mean just physically but mentally, taking the time to for deep breathing, positive affirmations and meditation make me feel so much better! This is definitely not something I have always done; it’s a learning process for me. I grew up surfing every single day and that in itself is a form of meditation for me. I feel empowered during and after I surf.

How do you stay grounded and unwind?

QD: I think it varies, depending on the day and what I feel like I need. Whether that is to be alone and disconnect from social media and take a salt bath or go meet up with my girlfriends or go for a surf, a walk in nature. It varies from day to day. That is something I try my best to do, listening to my body and what it is telling me is a way that I feel grounded.

In 2019, you opened Quincy Montauk. How would you describe your personal style and how is it reflected in the Montauk store?

QD: I love a good girlie moment when the mood strikes (date night!) but most days you will find me in jeans, a favorite tee shirt and sneakers. I am a casual surf girl at heart, so bikinis are in heavy rotation. A cool, relaxed and classic style is what I strive for. As I get older, I lean towards staple pieces with lasting power. You can definitely feel that when walking into Q store.

When it comes to summer style, what items are you most excited to don this season?

QD: Simplicity is the vibe for me this summer. I just want to spend summer running around outside in the sun, surfing, long beach days (when I am not at the shop) and having fun with my boyfriend and friends. Pieces that are easy and loose are in heavy rotation. I love vintage-fitting denim, lots of swim suits and slip dresses to throw on after the beach to go to out to dinner, and some classic cropped tees and tanks.

What does an ideal/day evening in Montauk look like?

QD: A summer swell, day spent in the water and the beach, sunburnt and salty. Having dinner at home with friends and family or a bonfire at the beach. Escaping the crowd is ideal.

Surf brings you to some pretty amazing places. What’s at the top of your travel wish list?

QD: I am a big fan of the Caribbean, having spent most of my winters in Puerto Rico since being a kid. I just love the warm, crystal clear blue water and the fact that it’s so close and easy from New York. I love traveling, and obviously haven’t been doing as much in the past year, so I am excited to start again! I would love to do a surf trip to Mexico this summer.

What about your most memorable moments in the water?

QD: There are so many! Ha-ha… I think some favorites are when there is a fun swell in the fall; it’s simply the best. The weather is still beautiful, not too cold yet and waves are fun. It is an exciting time of year.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

QD: I hope everyone has a fun filled and safe summer 21!

  • Traffic in the Hamptons is Time Sensitive

Traffic in the Hamptons is time sensitive. Going east from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and west from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. has become quite an ordeal. The initial expansion of “Highway 39” back around 2006-2007, in which the two-lane road was expanded to four and in some places six lanes, no longer is alleviating the traffic flow.

  • Sixty/Something: Solid Gold Rent

My first full-time year in the Hamptons started as a weekend and lasted a decade. I paid rent to a host of folks thinking I’d be moving back to NYC. Somehow the east end helped me transition to a very happily remarried east end guy.

This tale all started with me, a divorced dad having a fateful ride to Joe Shaw’s home as a favor to pick up a deposit on his sailboat. That day ended with me buying his sailboat. It was an on the spot spur of the moment epiphany moment. I knew nothing about sailboats or east end bays.

  • Bideawee Animal Rescue: “Stay Awhile”

It’s been more than two years since the start of the pandemic where there was a significant increase in animal adoptions, known as the “pandemic puppy craze.” Now, animal shelters across the country have been experiencing a lull in adoptions.

Bideawee is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. They have locations in New York City, Wantagh, and Westhampton, and they are encouraging the community to consider bringing a deserving and lovable pet into their home. @bideawee
