The LongHouse Reserve’s annual Summer Benefit is back on Saturday July 23rd, at 6pm. Celebrate artists – past, present, and future! This year themed, ONWARD, as their founder Jack Lenor Larsen often said, we come together and enjoy each other’s company on a warm and festive summer evening in our glorious 16-acre sculpture garden and nature reserve.
Wander the land – wide open spaces and hidden groves – seeking out beautiful sculptures and stunning plants, while enjoying music (Cherry Bombs, Joy Jan Jones, and more), specialty cocktails, and delicious food.
The makers of this season’s new works will be there! Steven and William Ladd will tell the stories that led to Right Here, Right Now, and how the sculpture represents their practice in love and kindness. Cheng Tsung Feng will be with there from Taiwan, welcoming all into Fish Trap VI, a portal dedicated to our local heritage, and a pavilion in one. Moko Fukuyama will engage everyone with her Hell Gate Keepers, Fitzhugh Karol will lead everyone to Friendship, his group of immense totems, honoring the spirit of trees, and Bjorn Amelan’s sumi ink paintings summon evocative language and stories.
On display will be a silent auction of works by artists from across the East End and around the globe including Cindy Sherman, Toni Ross, Kiki Smith, and Michele Oka Doner.
This is the most important benefit of the year with all proceeds going to their diverse educational outreach, community programming, and upkeep of our 16-acre grounds to be open to all.
