The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons will be hosting their first Bow Wow Meow Ball on Saturday, August 17th at their adoption center. Tony-Award winner Bernadette Peters will be this year’s honoree at the reception emceed by Dick Cavett, award presentation by Beth Ostrosky Stern. The event, formerly known as The Beach Ball, will be taking place for the first time at ARF’s 22-acre campus in Wainscott.
“Our events are much different because we have live animals at them,” said Sara Davison, the executive director of ARF of the Hamptons. Some of these animals will be available for adoption at the Bow Wow Meow Ball.
Peters helped start “Broadway Barks,” an event that brings together animal lovers in the across New York to recognize the difficulties of homeless animals. ARF of the Hamptons traditionally takes part in Broadway Barks. Last year, The Beach Ball honored Candy Udell.
The shelter takes in cats and dogs, readies them for adoption and helps find families to take in new pets. Since its inception in 1974, ARF of the Hamptons has provided for more than 20,000 animals.
To help raise more money for the shelter, there will also be an online auction for experiences such as golf lessons and New York Knicks games.
“Ideally, it’s a beautiful summer evening with no rain and we get a full house,” Davison said. She hopes that the ball raises around $500,000 to help out the shelters and give needy animals new homes.
