The Hampton Bays Rotary Club is joining forces with the Hampton Bays Middle School to help bring fresh drinking water to South Sudan by raising money to build a well in a local village. The fundraising efforts for Water for South Sudan will kick off on Thursday, September 18, 2014 during the Rotary Club’s 8th Annual “Autumn Evening by the Sea” benefit at Oakland’s Restaurant.
From 6 to 8 p.m., enjoy an open bar, appetizers, and a chance to take home great raffle prizes like gift certificates to local restaurants. Raffle tickets are $5 for one and $20 for five. For those unable to attend the event, raffle tickets will be on sale at all Rotarians, at the Hampton Bays Library (52 Ponquogue Avenue), Spring & Summer Activities (163 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays) and Good Ground Cleaners (39 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays).
Every day, millions of South Sudanese trek miles to collect clean water from ponds, marshes, ditches or hand-dug wells. Even after the long search to find a safe spot, the water is often contaminated with parasites and disease-bearing bacteria, which results in sickness, and even death. Water for South Sudan works alongside the people of South Sudan to create safe water flows, often resulting in better health, education, and economic development.
Tickets to “Autumn Evening by the Sea” are $45.
