Find your Santa costume, fire up the sleigh, gather up the reindeer and elves, and get ready for a festive trip to Riverhead, because the town is hosting their first-ever Santacon this weekend.
Santacon, the philanthropic, non-commercial, nonpolitical, whimsical Santa Claus convention that happens once a year during the holiday season for no particular reason is making its way out East. On Saturday, December 6, 2014, Riverhead will be invaded by Santa impersonators and other iconic holiday characters during the inaugural East End event.
Admission to Santacon is a $10 donation and the festivities begin at 3 p.m. During the seasonal happening, restaurants, bars and breweries will be offering food and drink specials to those with the special Santacon bracelet, which you receive with your donation. A festive outfit is an absolute must-have, and anything holiday related is acceptable.
Participating venues include Crooked Ladder (70 West Main Street), Cliff’s Rendezvous (313 East Main Street), Joe’s Garage and Grill (40 Peconic Avenue), Vines and Hops (127 East Main Street), Tweeds Restaurant and Buffalo Bar (17 East Main Street), The Suffolk Theater (118 East Main Street), Digger’s Pub (58 West Main Street), Jerry and the Mermaid Restaurant (469 East Main Street), Hotel Indigo East End (1830 West Main Street, Route 25), The Riverhead Diner & Grill (87 East Main Street), and Uncle Joe’s Pizzeria & Restaurant (12 West Main Street).
Net proceeds from bracelet sales for SantaCon support New Beginnings Community Center for The Brendan House Project, a long term care home for people with traumatic brain injuries or other cognitive and physical disabilities.
So get ready to leave the North Pole for a fun culinary and beverage tour of Riverhead, but just make sure to let Mrs. Claus or one of the elves drive the sleigh home.
