On Saturday, August 13th, the Surfrider Foundation will host its second annual Two Coasts: One Ocean bicoastal event in Montauk, NY beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is one of two events presented by the Surfrider Foundation – the other is held in Malibu, CA in September – that aims to raise awareness in support of the foundation’s causes: pollution reduction, the cleaning of waterways, and beach protection.
“Our Eastern Long Island Chapter identified two important projects that will ensure clean water and protect the beautiful coastlines of Eastern Long Island,” explained Chad Nelson, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation. “Surfrider connects our national experts with our chapters to address issues from the ground up.”
Guests will enjoy a formal dinner made from fresh and local ingredients at a secret location only disclosed to ticketholders. Specialty cocktails, and a full bar, will be provided by Finlandia Vodka during the sunset cocktail hour. The evening will also include musical entertainment from Savannah Buffet (Jimmy Buffet’s daughter), as well as other local musicians. Additionally, attendees can bid on items like a trip to Volcom’s Pipeline in Oahu and a VIP trip to Las Vegas to meet Coldplay during a live auction.
This year’s Montauk event will be hosted by Cynthia Rowley, Julie Gilhart, Julia Chaplin, Peter Davis, Lisa Spellman, and Morgan Collett. Proceeds will go towards clean water and preservation programs established by the foundation, specifically Surfrider’s Clean Water Initiative. A water-testing lab will be built at Stony Brook University which will help monitor water quality and extensive research will be conducted to address sea levels and coastal erosion.
A short film – highlighting the need of water control on the East End – made by professional surfer and filmmaker Mikey Detemple that was narrated by actor John Slattery will be presented at the event.
“Strong, local community connections are what makes our work successful and locally relevant,” added Nelson.
Tickets begin at $500.
