Over Memorial Day weekend, the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) Thrift Shop is transformed into a shopping treasure trove with room after room of unique finds available to purchase in support of the cats and dogs at the ARF Adoption Center in East Hampton. While unfortunately the Designer Show House will not be taking place in 2021 either, ARF is holding a virtual Treasures for the Home auction.
“After having to cancel the ARF Thrift Shop Designer Show House event for a second year, we are extremely grateful to ARF Board Member Alex Papachristidis of Alex Papachristidis Interiors for conceiving the idea for this benefit auction,” Jamie Berger, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. Director of Marketing & Communications, shared. “ARF is lucky to have a steadfast group of friends and supporters, many in the design world who have kindly donated to the auction and we are so thankful for their generosity.”
Presented in partnership with Christie’s and hosted by Charitybuzz, the online benefit auction will take place from Thursday, February 25 until Thursday, March 11. Bidders will find nearly 130 exceptional furniture and decorative items for the home that were generously donated by longtime ARF friends and adopters, including many well-known designers, artisans, and dealers.
“In lieu of a Designer Show we came up with the concept of an online auction drawn from ARF’s extended family of friends and supporters and bringing beautiful and unique pieces of custom furniture, art and antiques together for a single sale. ARF is an incredible charity, rescuing and nurturing the lives of animals from all over the country and parts of the world,” explained Papachristidis – who spearheaded the fundraiser along with ARF Board members Lisa McCarthy and Katharine Rayner.
Treasures for the Home highlights include “a pair of urn form lamps with scrolling handle in hand-finished plaster, made to order for Liz O’Brien Editions; a stylish Cole Porter bookcase/bar with black laminate shelves and brass frame, designed by Alex Papachristidis for a client; a contemporary hand-blown green glass vase made in the Venini workshop by Peter Marino; a stunning handmade Eve Kaplan ceramic and gold-leaf mirror, custom-made for this in the auction; ‘Dinner Table in a Box’ dinner service for twelve created by David Monn; Collection of Blue & White Porcelain dinnerware including a custom tablecloth, made to fit the buyer’s table; a pair of large handmade cork obelisks by Marian McEvoy; a Porcelain and Tole Lily of the Valley handmade by Vladimir Kanevsky; a custom-made Alexa Hampton two-tiered black and gold ash contemporary coffee table; a Billy Baldwin contemporary slipper chair; and a Dodie Thayer Lettuce ware tea service by Tory Burch.”
“The money raised will help ARF in its rescue and adoption efforts, and it will allow us to continue to offer free wellness and vaccine clinics to the community throughout the upcoming year,” Berger added.
ARF will also continue its Pet Food Pantry donation and pick up efforts at the ARF Adoption Center. Upcoming dates include Saturday, March 20 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Donations of unopened bags of cat and dog food (both wet and dry) and treats are needed.
