Stars including Tobey Maguire, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie Holmes, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and Anne Hathaway flocked to The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Beyoncé served as Honorary Chair at the Met Gala with Co-Chairs including Academy Award nominated actress Rooney Mara, Creative Director of Givenchy Lauren Santo Domingo, Co-Founder of Moda Operandi Riccardo Tisci, and Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Anna Wintour. Some of the biggest stars came out to support the Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit, all while looking fabulous and embracing the “Punk” theme.
In honor of the Museums exhibition, which will be on view from May 9 through August 14, the theme of the fundraiser was PUNK: Chaos to Couture. Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art explains the theme saying, “Punk’s signature mixing of references was fueled by artistic developments such as Dada and postmodernism… so it makes sense to present this exhibition in a museum that also shows the broader output of those movements. Indeed, that dialogue between art and fashion is what makes The Costume Institute so singular. Projects like this don’t happen without sponsorship, and we greatly appreciate the generosity of Moda Operandi, and its co-founders Aslaug Magnusdottir and Lauren Santo Domingo”.
