“This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the ARF Garden Tour, one of the longest running garden tours on Long Island and this year’s tour will surely not disappoint,” explained Jamie Berger of Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. (ARF). “We are so grateful to all the garden owners for allowing us access to their homes to help raise money for the animals.”
On Saturday, June 18th, the East End community can join ARF at the annual event which consists of a self-guided tour of five Hamptons homes, and a cocktail reception at the ocean front home of ARF Hamptons Chair, Barbara Slifka in Sagaponack.
The private properties that will be featured on the tour include the gardens of Susan Calhoun and Charlie Moss, Nancy Corzine, Gillian Spreckels Fuller, Bettysue and Jeffrey Hughes, and Rosalind and Ken Landis. The tour will also grant free entry to the Madoo Conservancy’s Much Ado About Madoo Garden Market.

The garden of Susan Calhoun and Charlie Moss was designed by noted landscape designer Edwina von Gal. Their house was originally the Wainscott post office, which Susan and Charlie moved from Main Street in the spring of 1978; and has been altered and added on to throughout the years. Their garden is a relaxed outside space that transitions from lawn and garden to meadow and view, giving the garden the option to expand as needed. When renowned furniture designer and interior decorator, Nancy Corzine was building her dream house in Bridgehampton, she was most excited about her garden. She added several indigenous plants to the grounds that she picked herself, and Corzine’s greatest pleasure is the wildlife that the area attracts.

After purchasing her Sagaponack home, Gillian Spreckels Fuller immediately replaced the tennis court with a garden. She looks at her garden as an expansive experiment and has already expanded the borders of her garden four times. Edmund Hollander designs will be on view at both the garden of Bettysue and Jeffrey Hughes, and the garden of Rosalind and Ken Landis. The Hughes’ home in Bridgehampton was featured in Hollander’s book Gardens for the New Country Place. The landscape was created to fit the architecture of the house and its surrounding grounds. Hollander also established an English garden for the Landis’ property with perennial borders and a cutting garden for the traditional shingle-style house that overlooks Georgica Pond. After 18 years, the property had outgrown the intended look and was ready for redesign. Christopher LaGuardia Design Group took the opportunity to open up the view to the water with strategic planting, which also added depth and texture to the property.
Tickets to the event are $85 for the tour and $175 for the tour and cocktail party, all of which supports Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons.
