To correctly compose a review of the Center Stage production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula at the Southampton Arts Center, one must note that the success of this show was achieved on many levels. Director Michael Disher, the founder of Center Stage, brilliantly assembled a cohesive cast that brought this historic, intense drama to a feverish pitch—one that dazzled a highly invested audience.
The spellbinding two-act show featured strong individual performances along with impressive technical work, especially in the sound design. The show had this reviewer on his feet, applauding at the conclusion. Presented in a “hybrid” radio-play format and adapted for the stage by Philip Grecian, this production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula runs through October 26.
The cast—Daniel Becker, Richard Adler, Mary Sabo, Franco Pistritto, Elizabeth Wyld, Michaal Lyn Schepps, Kyle Paseka, Michael Ponella, Taylor Tybaert, and Tim Ferris—should be applauded both as an ensemble and for their individual performances.
Once again, Daniel Becker’s talent shines in a Center Stage production. In his role as Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, he narrates and navigates the show through delicate moments with panache, tenderness, and vibrato.

Tim Ferris is fantastic as Count Dracula. His cryptic laughs and bombastic verbal elasticity provoke audible crowd reactions. He commands the stage in those hybrid moments when the show transitions from radio play to full stage performance. His portrayal of Count Dracula is so effective, it leaves this reviewer with an indelible and memorable impression.
Richard Adler, portraying Dr. Jack Seward, delivers an exquisite performance marked by delicate delivery and unwavering backbone. His presence brings a humanistic touch and fluidity to the show.
Taylor Tybaert is most effective as Jonathan Harker. He has a stage presence that cannot be taught and commands attention every time he delivers his lines.
Mary Sabo’s performance as Mina Harker is magnetic and dynamic. She has a rare talent for engaging the audience through her delivery, movement, and kinetic energy.
Franco Pistritto deserves special praise for his portrayal of the complicated R.M. Renfield. He possesses a glowing inner energy that captivates the audience every time he steps into the light. Kudos and accolades for this standout performance.
Elizabeth Wyld gives a superb, sublime, and at times gentle performance as Lucy Westenra. She definitely held the audience’s attention whenever she spoke.
Michael Ponella delivers a commanding performance as Williams. He has a clear ability to connect with the audience, and he did so throughout the show.
Kyle Paseka is both entertaining and natural in her role as Birdie.
Michaal Lyn Schepps plays The Announcer with zeal and enthusiasm.
The behind-the-scenes team also deserves recognition for the success of this production. Joe Giovingo should be noted for excellent set design and stage management, while Ken Blessing provided award-worthy lighting and sound design.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to SAC Director Christina Strassfield for her continued support of live theatrical performance in Southampton.
