Running in the Hamptons: Where Community, Movement and Home Meet

Training for the NYC Half Marathon has a funny way of putting life into perspective, especially when you’re doing it from Sag Harbor.

I live year-round on the East End, and most weeks my training happens outdoors. Each run stretches a little longer than the last, not just in miles, but in meaning. What starts as physical preparation quickly becomes a reminder of why living here is such a privilege and why the Hamptons are so much more than a seasonal destination.

One of the underrated benefits of living in Sag Harbor is that fitness doesn’t feel forced. It’s built into the landscape. I can map out runs that wind past open water, quiet marinas, wooded trails, and historic streets that glow during sunrise and slow down at sunset. Some mornings I’m chasing the light over the harbor; other days I’m running through misty paths where the only sounds are my breath and the footsteps of deer and squirrels running about.

This isn’t just scenic, it’s grounding. Movement here feels intentional, not transactional. It’s part of daily life, woven into the rhythm of the community.

And that rhythm is exactly what makes the East End such a special place to live full-time.

Training alone has its value, but the Hamptons truly shine when it comes to community-based wellness. I’m lucky to train with local fitness studio owner and trainer Jennifer Rosas of 11937 Fitness, whose approach blends strength, accountability, and genuine connection. Her work reflects something I see across the East End: local businesses built on relationships, not hype.

When schedules align, I also run with Hamptons Run Club, a reminder that fitness here is social, supportive, and inclusive. You’ll find seasoned athletes, weekend runners, year-round locals, and seasonal residents all sharing the same roads and goals. There’s no ego, just encouragement, and we all run at our own pace.
