Sag Harbor Cinema’s “Projections” Series Returns with “Generations Speak” Event Join Sag Harbor Cinema for the next installment of its “Projections” series on March 3rd, 2024, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. This free event will feature Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, Executive Director of the Eastville Community Historical Society, leading a discussion titled “Generations Speak.” Accompanying her on the panel will be Michael A. Butler, Eastville Community Historical Society Cemetery Preservation Director, and Harriet Simons, its Education and Volunteer Director. Prior to the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to view rarely seen archival footage of elders from the Eastville Community Historical Society.
Launched in 2021, the “Projections” series aims to spotlight the work and mission of various East End non-profit organizations by facilitating conversations and expanding audiences through Sag Harbor Cinema’s facilities, network, and digital platforms. This particular installment focuses on the Eastville Community Historical Society and its mission of connecting the African American, Native American, and European cultures of historical Sag Harbor.
“Eastville Community Historical Society focuses on the heritage of our founders who are living legends,” explains Dr. Georgette Grier-Key. “A primary focus for us is keeping community central to our mission. In the tradition of Sankofa, we look to the past in order to bring forth all that is good for the future. We are looking forward to Generations Speak to highlight the work of the elders.”
The archival footage, sourced from LTV, will showcase various glimpses of Eastville throughout history, emphasizing its vital role in the Sag Harbor community across generations. Following the screening, attendees will convene in the Cinema’s Rosenberg workspace for a discussion on the preservation, transmission, and celebration of generational knowledge.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Eastville Community Historical Society for the first ‘Projections’ series of the year,” says Genevieve Villaflor, Executive Director of Sag Harbor Cinema. “Remounting the ‘Forgetting to Remember’ exhibition at Eastville last summer reminded us that there is an important organization near us that can bring all of Sag Harbor together as it preserves the history and heritage of the Eastville and SANS communities for new neighbors and generations to discover.”
While the “Projections” program is open to the public free of charge, space is limited. Reserve your spot for this community event at www.sagharborcinema.org.
