The East Hampton Library is inviting the Hamptons community to join them for the Grand Opening Celebration of their new children’s addition, on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. The event will begin with an opening ceremony held on the library grounds, followed by a ribbon cutting, tours of the new addition and refreshments and entertainment for children.
During the opening ceremony, brief speeches by the Library’s Board of Managers will be given, as well as special proclamations from our elected public officials, the announcement of the winning entries in the library’s writing and drawing contests, the placement of a few special items into a time capsule, and music by the East Hampton Middle School’s all-girl chorus, The Bonnettes.
The new children’s addition at the East Hampton Library adds 6,800 square-feet to the existing library structure. Ben Krupinski Builders built the addition, which was designed by architect, Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA). Special features include a large Children’s Reading Room on the main floor, with the interior design and environmental graphics by Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership (LHS+DP). The new space allows for the addition of 10,000 more children’s books, new computers and technology, sufficient seating, areas designated for toddlers and teens, and other upgrades.
The lower level floor features a state-of-the-art Baldwin Family Lecture Room that will be used for community programs, meetings, film screenings, readings, lectures as well as book events. The East Hampton Library’s partnership with the New York Public Library will allow for live streaming of programs that belong to that institution, and also others from around the world. The gallery-style lobby features a lit wall exhibition space for art displays, which leads to the library’s new book sale and storage room.
The East Hampton Library is located at 159 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information call 631-324-0222 or visit www.easthamptonlibrary.org.
