The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) will screen “Spotlight” and “Carol” as the 2015 Centerpiece films.
“‘Spotlight’ and ‘Carol’ have garnered high praises and are highly anticipated for the awards circuit this year,” noted HIFF Executive Director Anne Chaisson. “Both films truly demonstrate the high caliber of films that we continue to pursue and program at our festival.”
Tom McCarthy’s “Spotlight” will make its East Coast Premiere as the Saturday Centerpiece at HIFF. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams as the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team. After their newly appointed editor Martin Baron (Liev Schreiber) assigns the group to examine claims of abuse in the Catholic Church, they spend more than a year unremittingly investigating the allegations, despite strong opposition from the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment. “Spotlight” takes a look at the true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation that exposed a gigantic web of pedophilia and systemic cover-ups within the Catholic Church. “Spotlight” will screen on Saturday, October 10th at 8:45 p.m. at Guild Hall (158 Main Street, East Hampton) and Sunday, October 11th at 7 p.m. at the Sag Harbor Cinema (90 Main Street, Sag Harbor).

The Sunday Centerpiece is Todd Haynes’ “Carol.” Adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s semi-autobiographical novel “The Price of Salt,” Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star as lovers entangled in an exhilarating affair. The film follows an unlikely relationship between an innocent shop girl fantasizing of a better life and a cultured, mature woman stuck in a loveless marriage. “Carol” will screen on Sunday, October 11th at 12 p.m. at Guild Hall and Monday, Oct 12th at 4:15 p.m. at the Sag Harbor Cinema.
“It is an honor to be screening these films for our Centerpieces this year,” shared HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent. “McCarthy and Haynes are two of America’s most talented filmmakers and they are working at the top of their game.”
The Hamptons International Film Festival will take place Thursday, October 8th through Monday, October 12th.
