Anahi DeCanio, an East End-based multi-disciplinary artist working in a variety of media, including award winning product designs, will be featured in Quogue Library’s September 2017 Exhibit, Anahi DeCanio: Unedited Abstractions.

“Every brushstroke, color, element, or scratch as symbols of the marks left behind by life events and the passage of time,” she noted.
DeCanio, who is the Creative Director of ArtyZen Studios and founder and curator of eco-friendly art and design show eARThHAMPTONS, will also be showing with Charles Wildbank during a Labor Day Weekend Open House at William Ris Gallery (1291 Main Road, Jamesport, www.williamris.com), with an Opening Reception on Saturday, September 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.
DeCanio’s pieces are inspired by nature as well as urban settings. Her complex abstract landscapes encompass layer upon layer – each awaiting exploration. As viewers dive deeper into the works, subtle details that might have been missed upon the initial glance are unveiled.
“From the first canvas I ever painted, I start with writing. Words and positive messages I’m putting out through my work,” explained DeCanio. “Simple messages of love, good health, laughter, peace, abundance… In the beginning most of the writing was covered by numerous layers of paint.

The artist creates the richly textured paintings by alternating opaque and transparent pigments.
“For the past 18 months or so, the text has become more and more visible as I have made a concerted effort to reveal more – hence – the Unedited for the title of the show,” she noted. “There are times when layers I consider beautiful get covered up the process and where the final image wants to go.”
DeCanio’s work can be found in private and corporate collections in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Her pieces have also appeared in The New York Times, The Palm Beach Post and TIME, and can be seen in several TV and motion picture productions.
“This new perspective and methodology is allowing some layers to be more translucent and peek through to the final surface,” added DeCanio.
Anahi DeCanio: Unedited Abstractions will be on view at Quogue Library from Friday, September 1 through Saturday, September 30. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, September 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m..
