Hamptons Juried Art Show Benefiting The Retreat Celebrating 10th Anniversary

Believe, the Hamptons Juried Art Show’s 10th iteration, will premiere at the RJD Gallery in Bridgehampton on Saturday, April 13.

Richard Demato, RJD Gallery owner, created the exhibition to champion The Retreat, a safe haven for families in crisis in the Hamptons and the East End of Long Island, by raising awareness and locating and cultivating donors. He continues this mission year after year through the annual Hamptons Juried Art Show.

“When you continue to have the hope that with earnest intention, and effort, we can change things that need attention in the world, for the betterment of all,” Demato relayed. “That there is a better life for those that become aware, and elect or grasp, that they deserve and can have a better life.”

Believe will feature 23 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photography, and ink drawings, from 20 artists from around the world. The exhibition opens at the RJD Gallery on Saturday, April 13 with a public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. The show runs through Sunday, May 19.

Over the past decade, hundreds of artists from around the world have participated in the show, many of them doing so specifically to support the work of The Retreat. Demato believes the show is one way for artists to “empower and support children and women, to achieve a better life and world to live in.”

“…There is a better life for those that become aware, and elect or grasp, that they deserve and can have a better life,” Demato added.

Works are judged by Richard Demato and the RJD Gallery staff. They vote on the art based on both its technical quality and its strength of composition in supporting The Retreat’s mission and the empowerment of survivors. The Retreat receives 100 percent of entry fees and 50 percent of show sales.

For more than 30 years, The Retreat, a community-based, not-for-profit agency, has provided comprehensive domestic violence services for children and adults, support for survivors, and prevention community education.
