This fall, Southampton Arts Center will introduce “LIVE from Southampton Arts Center” – its new program in partnership with The Jam Session Inc.
“This is not just another concert series,” explained Southampton Arts Center Director of Programs, Amy Kirwin. “Our idea is to make each evening about more than the sounds of different genres and cultures, but also the flavors and customs that inspire the music.”
The lively series will kick-off on Saturday, October 15th at 7 p.m. with Latin from Manhattan: Afro-Cuban Jazz and Beyond. The debut will feature dynamic, unique sounds of the genre, Afro-Cuban Jazz, and will highlight music from numerous well-known Latin Jazz innovators – like Dizzy Gillespie, Chano Pozo, Machito, Mario Bauza, and Chico O’Farrill.
Musicians from the East End community as well as from around the world will take the stage, and the Latin from Manhattan: Afro-Cuban Jazz and Beyond lineup includes Ada Rovatti, Alex Sipiagin, Nestor Milanes, Steve Shaughnessy, The Jam Session co-founder Claes Brondal, and Geraldo Flores, just to name a few.
This is an incredible opportunity to taste and hear the sounds of this diverse and unique genre. Flavors of typical Latin American food will be served, thanks to Union Cantina, and refreshments will also be available, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
“It will be an experience for the ears, eyes, and mouth,” added Kirwin.
Don’t miss out on this extraordinary chance to experience Latin Jazz from renowned pioneers in the music industry, bringing together a powerful mix of American and Cuban works. “This will be a truly unique experience and a world-class concert featuring a multicultural lineup of highly accomplished musicians,” series curator Claes Brondal added.
Tickets are $10 tickets per person ($5 for children and students).
The concerts will continue on Saturday, November 12th with The Music of Mali: Yacouba Sissoko and LUMA and Saturday, December 17th with musicians TBA.
