The Hamptons International Film Festival will conclude its 5th annual SummerDocs series with screenings of “Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me” and “The Short Game” on August 12 and August 30 respectively. Both films will be shown at the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall in East Hampton
The first film, “Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me,” will screen at 7 p.m. and feature the life story of Broadway legend Elaine Stritch. The film follows her Tony and Emmy-award winning career through her success both on the stage and on television. The documentary will also focus on Stritch’s personal insight into her struggles and reflections on her own life and accomplishments. The film will be the directorial debut of acclaimed documentary producer Chiemi Karasawa and will feature friends of Stritch like Nathan Lane, George C Wolfe, Hal Prince, Cherry Jones, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, the late James Gandolfini, and John Turturro.

The final film of this year’s SummerDocs series, “The Short Game,” will be shown at 8 p.m. It is a documentary that follows eight young boys and girls from across the globe as they compete in the World Championship of Junior Golf in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The 7 and 8-year-old subjects of the film are among 1500 young golfers from 54 countries competing to become the sport’s next top contender. Directed by feature film newcomer, Josh Greenbaum, the documentary follows golfers including Anna Kournikova’s younger brother Allan and Amari Avery (known as the Tigress for sharing the same hometown and birthday as Tiger Woods). The film follows the intertwining stories to form a fascinating and often funny portrayal of the athletes and their families.
“David has a good eye for documentaries that lead to good discussion programs after,” said Hamptons International Film Festival Advisor Board Member Alec Baldwin about the program’s Artistic Director David Nugent. “I think SummerDocs has been a great success.”
