Netflix has ordered eight one-hour episodes of “Montauk,” a new drama written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer. The series is set to debut in 2016.
Set in 1980, “Montauk” is about a young boy who mysteriously disappears. As friends, family, the police, and the local community look for answers, they are drawn into an astonishing conundrum featuring classified government experiments, frightening supernatural forces, and one very peculiar little girl. The series is a throwback to the 80s classics that enthralled a generation.
“Matt and Ross are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix, in a press release about the show. “Their unique voice infuses this coming of age drama with supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience.”
Netflix made history in 2013 when its original show, “House of Cards,” became the first online series to win three Emmys. Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” has also won several Emmys.
