The Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) is set to host a celebration for the complex and exquisite Russian culture. The Center’s DanceFusion program will present The Magic of Russia featuring Barynya, the dance ensemble established in 1991 by Mikhail Shmirnov, who will honor a series of Eastern European traditions during the two hours they take the stage at the East End-based theatre.
“Please support DanceFusion’s effort to bring professional dance talent to the East End, here in Southampton,” expressed SCC Board Member, Laura Devinney. “We have an exciting music and dance performance and fundraiser, The Magic of Russia, a celebration of Russian folk culture – folk dance, vodka, food, nostrovia.”
The elaborate festivity will take place on Saturday, June 25th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southampton Cultural Center. Performances will include traditional instruments such as the balalaika, garmoushka, Gypsy guitar, and domra. Along with the traditional instruments, dance and song comes the traditional food. The cocktail reception will have beer and wine, a customary Russian hors d’oeuvres spread, or zakuski, and, of course, vodka.

In these classic performances, the “vitality, competitive spirit, and endurance” of the Russian culture will be entirely evident. The folk dances alone can ignite understanding in the vastness of the geographical dimensions and intricate history. For those always inspired by the tenacity and grandeur of Russia, this evening is not to be missed. Whether or not it runs in your blood, the exquisite show may leave you feeling a bit more Russian than when you arrived.
Admission to The Magic of Russia is $75 per person or $130 per couple. Admission for children under 12 is free and they must be accompanied by an adult.
