Calling all Hamptons actors and actresses! Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will be holding open auditions for God of Carnage on Wednesday, July 6th and Thursday, July 7th at 6 p.m. at the Levitas Center for the Arts at Southampton Cultural Center.
“I consider GOC a cautionary tale,” remarked Michael Disher, who will direct the production. “Bright, brittle and dastardly funny, Yasmina Reza’s play, brilliantly translated by Christopher Hampton, alerts parents that perhaps children learn from them than what is directly taught.”
God of Carnage (A Comedy without Manners) is about two sets of parents that meet to discuss an altercation between their sons, in what they hope to be a civilized manner. As the evening evolves, the parents become more childlike and humorously truthful about each other. The play becomes hilariously comedic by the end, as the parents realize they are no more adult like than their own young children.
This riveting play has won three Tony Awards, including Best Play, Leading Actress and Director. The roles available include Alan Raleigh (40s, lawyer), Annette Raleigh (40s, Alan’s wife), Michael Novak (40s, a hardware salesman), and Veronica Novak (40s, Michael’s wife).
All auditioning actors should be prepared to read from the script. The show will be performed Thursday, October 13th through Sunday, October 30th.
“The four actors needed will be asked to shed their veneer of adulthood and expose the child beneath,” remarked Disher.
