Hamptons-Based Community Theater Presenting “A Night Of Vaudeville”

Springs Community Theater Company (SCTC) will enchant, amuse, entertain, and dazzle the East End community during A Night of Vaudeville at 230 Elm in Southampton.

For Barbara Mattson, the show’s producer, this particular type of production is something she’s been interested in putting forth for quite some time. “The idea of the vaudeville show has been a Springs Community Theater dream for a long time,” she shared. “The great thing about it is that it’s the kind of inclusive format where we can have all ages perform and connect through their love of theater, singing and dancing.”

Springs Community Theater is ecstatic to show off their exciting lineup. “We have so many great acts, including our emcee April Koeugh, who is a stand-up comedian and who really brings the vaudeville show together, plus our fabulous piano player Craig Kitt, who will accompany many of the performances, and our opening band and dinner music by Johnny Zarrow,” Mattson explained.

Theater buffs will no doubt recognize many of the notable show tunes from the opening act. “The night will begin with several Broadway songs, such as Honey Bun from South Pacific, Nothing from A Chorus Line, and numbers from Hair, Beauty and the Beast, Gypsy, and more,” she shared.

The evening will also showcase rising stars from the East End. “We have a few solo numbers performed by our high school students Colin Freedman, Allison Fiorello and two wonderful dance numbers choreographed by Eric Jacobson,” Mattson explained. “One is a musical Footloose number with our very talented high school students, plus a few others, which will make you want to get up and dance.”

“We’ve also got a Cell Block Tango performed by our five talented ladies Susan Conklin, Jillian Griffiths, Lindsey Sanchez, Riley Goldstein, Stephanie Whitehorn, and Allison Fiorello and a special guest surprise,” she teased.

For just $45, A Night of Vaudeville attendees will be treated to a memorable show as well as a buffet dinner with herb crusted salmon, chicken francaise, roasted potatoes, a vegetable medley, penne alla vodka, salad, and a small glass of wine. “We love the idea of a dinner theater vaudeville because it’s entertainment with a lovely meal out,” Mattson said. “Many thanks to 230 Elm in Southampton for wanting to be part of this. I think it’s something we need in the Hamptons, an affordable night with great food and entertainment.”

A portion of the proceeds from A Night of Vaudeville will support a SCTC performing arts scholarship for two students at East Hampton High School. “SCTC loves theater but also loves to give back to our community. We need singing and dancing in the world today,” Mattson reflected. “Come join us for a night to get away from our everyday life and have some fun. We promise it will be a night to remember.”

“We hope this will be a big success because it something we would like to do every year,” she added.

Performances will be held on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. Dinner will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the Show starts at 7:30 p.m.

230 Elm is located at 230 Elm Street in Southampton. For tickets, visit ovationtix.com.

  • Sixty-Something: Hamptons’ Tales and Legends

The east end of Long Island is my special place. Like so many before me, I came here and never left. The reasons I came out east are many, but the reason I stayed is simple. It wasn’t the beauty of the ocean beaches, the bays, the villages, the farmlands, and the outdoors with amazing wildlife. The reason I personally launched my future in East Hampton was simple; I was lost in life and within minutes on a visiting Hamptons day felt salvation, a new course for a better future. I cannot say at first I understood what makes the east end so special, but I can say I just knew for me it was.

  • Ruby Murray’s Serving Indian Food with a British Twist

Ruby Murrays in Southampton is a ghost kitchen that sells Indian food British style. What’s a ghost kitchen, you might ask? Good question. Essentially, it’s just a takeout place; they don’t offer any type of sit-down dining. They share the kitchen with Wishbone Farms in Southampton, which is right off off Hampton Road. @_rubymurrays_
