The Bridgehampton Museum is pleased to welcome author Amanda Fairbanks who will speak about her book The Lost Boys of Montuak, as part of their Distinguished Lecturer Series at the Museum Archive Building, Thursday, June 16, at 6 pm.
Ms. Fairbanks’ book tells the true story of the Wind Blown, its four crewmen who vanished at sea, and the survivors they left behind. It’s a universal tale of family and brotherhood; and about what happens when the dreams and ambitions of affluent and working-class families collide. Captivating and powerful, The Lost Boys of Montauk explores one of the most important questions we face as humans: How do memories of the dead impact the lives of those left behind?
Amanda M. Fairbanks is a journalist and author. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Atlantic, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Columbia Journalism Review, and the East Hampton Star. A graduate of Smith College and a former Teach for America corps member, she has two master’s degrees from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The California native lives with her family in Sag Harbor. She is currently at work on her second nonfiction book
