Michael Puzzo’s play, THE DIRTY TALK, will be presented at “The Clubhouse,” 174 Daniels Hole Road in East Hampton on December 5th and 6th at 7 pm. It will be directed by Steve Hamilton, with John Kroft and Edward W. Kassar. The running time is projected to be 40 minutes. THE DIRTY TALK is a play that explores how we lie to others and ourselves in a hilarious meeting between two very mismatched people.
The Dramatist website explains that in Michael Puzzo’s comedy, Lino and Mitch, an outrageously mismatched pair of strangers, find themselves stranded in a hunting cabin in the mountains of New Jersey during a ferocious storm. Unable to leave (the phone’s dead, the car’s engine is flooded—its windshield wipers are gone), we gradually find out these men aren’t exactly here by mere happenstance. During their tumultuous day together, the two explore what defines being a man, the value of emotional intimacy, the lies we tell each other, and, most devastatingly, the lies we tell ourselves.
Director Steve Hamilton decided to direct THE DIRTY TALK because “I wanted to work with Eddie (Kassar). He’s an interesting actor, committed. He’s a theater maker, and I like that. Getting JK (John Kroft) on board was the cherry on the icing on the cake.”
Eddie Kassar said he wanted Steve Hamilton to direct this show because “(Steve) Hamilton is a very creative director, talented, and very prepared. John and I feel very much in sync with how he works. He gives us room to create while simultaneously guiding us.
Kassar explained the reason the show is being produced at The Clubhouse by saying, “The Clubhouse is known for its variety of well-known musical and comedy performances. I thought it a natural next step to foray into a theatrical production. Our first show at the Clubhouse, Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story,” was a success.
Director Steve Hamilton said he believes folks should make an effort to see this show because, “It’s a funny, sometimes touching moment in time for two broken men ‘looking for love in all the wrong places’… and at the Clubhouse, there’s always a drink waiting at the bar!” Whereas Eddie Kassar explained, “The best Theater raises questions about ourselves, how we navigate life and hopefully, improve our impact on others. THE DIRTY TALK does just that.”
When asked what makes THE DIRTY TALK a pleasure to stage, Steve Hamilton said, “You mean besides hearing Eddie and John saying naughty things onstage? Guess you’ll have to come to the Clubhouse Dec 5 and 6 to find out!”
