You know Townline BBQ is one of the best casual restaurants in the Hamptons because just look at all those trucks!
Going to Townline BBQ has a way of turning an ordinary afternoon into an evening and into an event. But while the trivia crowd, lively bar scene, and easygoing atmosphere all contribute to its charm, the real draw is, and always has been, the food.
Townline occupies a rare lane in the Hamptons dining world. It is casual without trying too hard, convivial without feeling chaotic, and fully committed to its identity as a roadside barbecue joint. In a place better known for polished plates and precious presentation, Townline remains refreshingly direct: smoked meat, hearty sides, cold drinks, and a room full of happy people – many of them local.
That sense of certainty is part of what makes it work. Townline doesn’t need to reinvent itself to stay relevant. It simply continues doing what it does well, serving meals best enjoyed with friends and enough table space for a proper spread.
The smartest way to order here is with the table in mind. The menu lends itself to abundance, and the experience is better for it.
Obviously, the BBQ is the lead, but here are some of my favorite things to order at the best barbecue restaurant in the Hamptons, Townline BBQ.
– The Wings are unreal – all the flavors, but “naked” is my favorite – extra crispy.
– The Spoon Salad is a sneaky favorite of mine and any real Townline-ers.
– The Smash Burger is one of the best burgers in the Hamptons.
– Coleslaw – You can’t get too much. Crunchy, cold, fresh – perfect!
– Pile O’ Nugs (exactly what it sounds like) – one of my favorite snacks in East Hampton.
– Homemade Whoopie Pies – they taste as good as they look, and boy, do they look good!
What Townline gets right is the balance between quality and comfort. Nothing overwrought. The food is satisfying (because it is barbecue), generous, and flavorful.
That ease extends to the room itself. There is an unmistakable warmth to Townline, not just from the smokers, but from the atmosphere. Come hungry, order well, stay longer than expected.
On Thursdays, especially, it is worth arriving early, before thinkinc Trivia shows up. Tables fill quickly, and once the game begins, attention tends to shift from the plate to the increasingly spirited matter of team strategy.
JSYK, the bar is fantastic and Ryan rules!
Townline BBQ is an East End favorite because it knows exactly what it is. It is a place for good food, good company. In the Hamptons, that alone makes it worth returning to.
