Christian Wölffer, former owner of Wölffer Estate Vineyards here in Sagaponack, New York, had always dreamt of owning a vineyard in Argentina one day. He wasn’t able to bring that dream to fruition before his death in 2008, but his children, Joey and Marc, have worked hard in the years following to make their father’s dream a reality. After his father’s passing, Marc eventually bought 85 hectares of land in Mendoza, Argentina, a city in the Cuyo region that is also known as the heart of Argentinian Wine Country. Together with fellow winemaker Roman Roth and Susanna Balbo, the vineyard’s “Aida of Torrontes”, the Wölffer team has launched their newest Wine– the Finca Wölffer Malbec 2022, a rich and jammy Argentinian red.
I had the pleasure of tasting the newest addition to Wölffer’s line of spectacular wines; it packs a punch. The Finca Wölffer Malbec 2022 is deep purple in color, different from the two other previously launched white and rosé wines from their Argentinian Vineyard. Each sip brings intense berry flavors with vibrant notes of plum, black currant, fig, and black cherry. The wine is full-bodied and elegant, with distinct layers of dark chocolate and velvet minerality. Launching this juicy Malbec comes perfectly in time for all your holiday dinners and events. Wölffer Vineyards boasts the wine’s versatility by saying the 2022 Malbec is “the perfect bridge from Rose to Red Wine.” They suggest it pairs well with pork, veal, lamb, and fish. I see it fitting in nicely on all tables across this festive season.
Sitting on the porch of Wölffer Estate Vineyard’s Sagaponack main location with heat lamps keeping you warm while you overlook the string-lit acres of vines in the distance, this cozy Malbec is a perfect winter treat.
