Legal Action Authorized On Dune Restoration At Baron Estate
The East Hampton Town Board has authorized the Town Attorney’s office to move forward with any and all legal action necessary in an action against billionaire investor Ron Baron for disturbances to the Atlantic Double Dune system which may have resulted from the construction of a wall along the southern side of his property at 260 Further Lane.

Fatal Accident Claims Life Of Construction Worker In Southampton Village
A fatal accident claimed the life of a construction worker Monday afternoon, Jan. 5, at a site on the corner of North Sea Road and Willow Street in the village of Southampton. Emergency personnel were called to the site, at approximately 3 p.m., including Southampton Village police and volunteer ambulance.

Pope And Schiavoni Sworn In As First Town Business Of New Year
New Southampton Town Board member Sally Pope and new Town Justice Andrea Schiavoni took their oaths of office Friday, Jan. 2 in front of a packed house of family, friends and soon-to-be colleagues at Town Hall. Pope’s election makes her the third councilwoman and fourth female member of the Southampton town board, while Schiavoni’s assignment makes her the third female town justice.

Christian Wolffer Fatally Injured While Swimming In Paraty, Rio de Janeiro
Christian Wolffer, 70, the well-known entrepreneur and owner of Wolffer Estates Vineyard in Sagaponack, met an untimely death in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when he was fatally injured by a boat while swimming. The German-born entrepreneur was well known in the Hamptons social scene and highly regarded in business circles.

Buckskill Winter Club Reopens To Raft Of Eager Enthusiasts
Snow that wrought havoc in the northeast pushed back the Winter Club’s 2008 debut, which was initially scheduled for Dec. 20. The next day, the DeGroots reluctantly delayed it once more, this time because of rain. Finally when Monday, Dec. 22 dawned conditions were close to ideal. The club that was temporarily shut down last year now welcomed junior hockey players on to the ice in the morning and the rink was open for public skating in the afternoon.

To beat Central Islip in the finals of the Westhampton Beach Dual Meet Tournament, the Hurricanes needed everything they had in the bag. Tied at nine team points with their best wrestlers already in the books, the younger ’Canes showed what they were made of, chalking up victories in six of the next seven matches to ice the tournament win, which ended up being by a 35-20 margin.

Hampton Bays’ Cavallo Fractures Skull In Friday's Game; Likely Out For Remainder Of The Season
Following a vicious fall during Friday’s 72-57 loss at Patchogue-Medford, Hampton Bays basketball star Bruno Cavallo is expected to miss the remainder of the season, having suffered a hairline fracture to his skull and minor bleeding. He was immediately tended to by the trainer on site and then accompanied by his mother, Donna, to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
