“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” George Lucas created a film series that has turned into a global obsession.
“Who could have guessed when Star Wars came out in 1977, it would continue to be a pop culture phenomenon that would still be relevant today?” asked Jay Janoski, head of reference at Westhampton Free Library. “The kids who were in those seats for the very first movie are now bringing their own children to the new movie!”
“May the Force be with you” on Thursday, May 5th through Saturday, May 7th as Westhampton Free Library presents its Star Wars series and convention. The Star Wars Family Extravaganza will feature trivia, crafts, viewings, photo shoots and more.
“This is the first time we are doing a Star Wars program, we have done other ‘con’s’ in the past and even took a swing at Big Lebowski Fest type of program,” explained Janoski.
Paying tribute to all of your favorite characters, like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi, Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca, festivities will kick off on Thursday, May 5th at 6 p.m. with Pizza and Screening of Star Wars VII: A New Hope. On Friday, May 6th from 3:30 to 5 p.m. drop by the library for a snapshot opportunity with Stormtroopers. The photo session will be followed by Pizza and Screening of Robot Chicken: Star Wars (Adult Program Registration required) at 6 p.m. The celebration will wrap up on Saturday, May 7th. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Library’s Star Wars Convention will feature Mini Brush Bots; Star Wars Pancakes; Pin the Tail on…Chewy?; Button Making (Han Shot First!); Star Wars Makeup Mask; mini-Mos Eisley lunch cantina; and the Ultimate Star Wars Trivia Contest with Big Prizes.
